Mission
Umoja Preventative works to prevent human trafficking by addressing the systemic conditions that create vulnerability. We partner with communities to strengthen education, health, and economic stability—equipping individuals and local systems to reduce exploitation from within.
Vision
We envision communities that are resilient, self-sustaining, and resistant to exploitation—were vulnerability is reduced through strong, connected, and well-resourced local systems.
Our Approach
Umoja Preventative is grounded in an ecological systems perspective, recognizing that vulnerability to exploitation is shaped by interconnected factors such as education, health, economic opportunity, and community relationships.
We work with communities as living systems—not as isolated problems to be solved. Our focus is on strengthening the conditions around individuals, so they are better equipped to protect and support one another.
We prioritize collaboration with local leaders and community members, building on the knowledge, relationships, and strengths that already exist within each environment.
We do not position ourselves as external problem-solvers, but as partners supporting community-led, sustainable change.
Current Work
Umoja Preventative is currently partnering with communities in Malawi to implement peer-led education and prevention initiatives focused on human trafficking and exploitation.
This work serves as a foundation for expanding our model to address interconnected systems of vulnerability through education, health, and economic empowerment.
